The Birth of Cafe Rio
Founded in 2015 by the Martinez family, Cafe Rio began as a dream to bring authentic Mexican flavors to the heart of Austin. What started as a small family kitchen operation has grown into a beloved community gathering place.
Our founders, Maria and Carlos Martinez, immigrated from Guadalajara with generations-old family recipes and an unwavering commitment to quality. They believed that food should not only nourish the body but also connect people to their heritage and community.

The Beginning
Carlos and Maria Martinez opened the first Cafe Rio location on East 12th Street with just 8 tables and a dream to share authentic Mexican cuisine with Austin.
Community Recognition
Cafe Rio was voted "Best Mexican Restaurant" by Austin Monthly magazine, establishing our reputation for authentic flavors and exceptional service.
Expansion & Growth
We expanded our dining area and added our signature weekend brunch menu, featuring traditional Mexican breakfast dishes alongside innovative fusion options.
Catering Services
